Sound Off: Should Hardee's Steer Clear of Edina?
Locals have been discussing whether or not the fast food chain should open a restaurant on France Avenue in Edina. What do you think?

After news broke that —one of 59 planned for the Twin Cities—the Edina Patch Facebook Page absolutely blew up with comments about the burger chain.
Who knew fast food could cause such a stir?
Here's a small sampling of those comments, giving you an idea of the issues at the heart of the discussion:

"The last thing we need is more fast food in Edina. Fast casual would be fine (I think a Buffalo Wild Wings would be perfect) but just say 'no' to Hardee's!"

"Hardees is a truck drivers over the road type restaurant. Food is bad and Edina is too upscale for the likes of Hardees. At least it is right across the street from Southdale Heart Clinic after you clog your arteries with the crappy unhealthy food."
Sharon Beadle-Harris said:
"Absolutely not! But we could sure use some more 'non-chain, non-unhealthy' options in the Edina/Bloomington area."

"There's room enough for everyone.. (good site visibility and drive-thru access!) Good Luck Hardees."

"That would be horrible to put in Edina. Even a BW3 would suck. Look at the calorie count on their menu. I will never eat there again. Just gross!"
Angie Berger said:
"Not a very hospitable crowd. Isn't filling in vacant business space a good thing for our economy?"

"The elitism in this thread is kind of disgusting. If you don't like Hardee's, don't eat there. I'm not a fan of their food, but other people obviously are, they're opening 50 new restaurants in Minnesota. Let the market decide if opening a location in Edina is a good idea - if it is, people other than you will eat there and enjoy it. If it isn't, it will go out of business, and the owners will lose money. Whether you personally would eat at a given restaurant or not is kind of irrelevant to whether they should open a location."

"I don't think I have ever disagrees with you John, well here's a first, that's why every city has a planning commission / board and our city doesn't look like some of the other cities with fast food everywhere and crappy little strip malls barely hanging on. I don't have a problem maintaining an elitist city especially of it brings in higher end food restaurants. Have you tries to get a table at some of these places."
What do you think? Would a Hardee's on France Avenue be a detriment to the Southdale area? Are folks being elitist about something that in many ways doesn't impact them? Let us know in the comments section below.
