Unpermitted Recreational Fire Brings Out Edina Crew
The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for Jan. 23-29.

The responded to the following incidents during the week of Jan. 23-29:
Monday, Jan. 23
- Paramedic firefighters responded to nine incidents requiring emergency medical service.
- An ambulance and an engine crew responded to a roll-over crash with injuries on southbound Hwy. 169 at the ramp from West 70th Street.
- Firefighters responded to the 5100 block of Lincoln Drive to assist a resident with an apartment filling with smoke from a fireplace with a closed damper. The damper was opened and the smoke was ventilated from the unit.
Tuesday, Jan. 24

- There were 11 responses for emergency medical service.
- A false fire alarm was investigated.
Wednesday, Jan. 25
- 24 incidents required emergency medical service.
- A request for mutual aid from the Richfield Fire Department for a possible apartment fire was cancelled en route.
- Two carbon monoxide alarms were reported at the same address in the 7000 block of Cahill Road. The fire department could not gain entry, because no one was home for the first alarm. The second alarm was found to be caused by water leaking on the detector, causing it to malfunction. The leaking water line was tightened.
Thursday, Jan. 26

- 11 responses were for emergency medical service.
- A vehicle crash with injuries on Hwy. 100 at Benton Avenue was attended by paramedics and an engine crew.
Friday, Jan. 27
- Paramedic firefighters responded to 11 incidents requiring emergency medical service.
Saturday, Jan. 28
- A fire alarm brought firefighters to an apartment building in the 4100 block of Parklawn Avenue. Firefighters discovered there had been a grease fire caused by unattended cooking in one of the units. The fire was out, but caused damage to the hood and cabinets above the stove and to the paint on the wall. Firefighters investigated, but found no further extension.
- 10 incidents required emergency medical service.
- Engine 82 responded to the scene of a vehicle crash on West 69th Street at France Avenue. All Edina ambulances were involved with other emergencies, so a Hennepin County Ambulance arrived to attend to victims. The engine crew followed to the hospital to assist.
- Firefighters responded to the 5700 block of Deville Drive for a reported recreational fire on a deck. Firefighters found a fire inside of a recreational fire device, but said it was too close to structures. The resident did not have a recreational fires permit with a list of the regulations. The fire was allowed to die down, so it could be moved off the deck safely. The resident was instructed on obtaining a permit and did so online.
- Smoke was reported inside of a home in the 400 block of Griffit Street. Firefighters discovered light smoke in the home caused by a closed fireplace flue. The damper was opened and there was no need to ventilate smoke from the residence.
Sunday, Jan. 29
- There were eight calls for emergency medical service.
- A carbon monoxide alarm was checked out in the 4600 block of Edina Boulevard. The alarm appeared to be a malfunction. No carbon monoxide was measured using the fire department's 4-gas monitors.
- Firefighters investigated a maliciously pulled fire alarm in the 7300 block of Gallagher Drive.
