Was Edina Snubbed from All-Star Game?

Not a single Hornet made the 88-player roster for the 39th annual event.

For the fourth year in a row, not a single player from 's football team was named to the Minnesota Football Coaches Association's annual All-Star game.

The rosters for both North and South teams were unveiled Wednesday, with a grand total of 88 players from throughout the state selected to play in the 39th annual All-Star game at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday, June 30.

Since its inception in 1945—there were All-Star games in 1945, 1946, 1952 and 1960, though the current annual series didn't restart until 1974—a total of 46 Edina players have made the elite team. That list includes such esteemed names as Fred Richards in 1959, who would later go on to serve as mayor of the city, and Scot Housh (1980), who started as quarterback long before his lengthy tenure on Edina City Council.

The most recent player to make the All-Star team was Curtis James, an offensive lineman from Edina who served as 2008 Captain for the Metro team—the All-Star game used to pit Metro players against Outstate. In the four games since then, not a single Hornet has been named to the All-Star roster.

This year's roster may not include any Edina players—like standouts Kevin Carroll, Nick Rallis, Mark Handberg or Marley Allison—but players from Lake Conference rivals Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Hopkins and Wayzata all made the game.
