Yorktown Garden Parking Lot and Baseball Field Renovation on City Council Agenda

The Edina City Council will also receive the 2012 comprehensive financial report at its Tuesday meeting.

Edina residents who were lucky enough to reserve one of the Yorktown Park Community Garden's 55 plots might soon find it a little easier to visit their herbs and flowers.

The Edina City Council agreed on June 4 to build a shared parking lot with the YMCA to service the garden. At the council's Tuesday meeting, it is expected to approve a $66,790 construction bid for the parking lot from Bituminous Roadways, Inc. If the YMCA also approves the bid, parking lot should be completed by Aug. 16. The YMCA has agreed to reimburse Edina for the cost of construction.

The council is also expected to award a $207,130 contract to Peterson Companies to renovate the Garden Park baseball field.

  • Excavate and renovate the infield and outfield areas, plant new grass seed and install drainage tile and a new irrigation system
  • Construct two new chain link batting cages (15' X 75" and 12' in height)
  • Construct new bull pens
  • Provide a 5-row portable bleacher to accommodate 90 spectators
Funding for the renovations will come from a $100,000 Edina Baseball Association donation and a $25,000 Twins Hennepin County grant for batting cages—along with money earmarked in the city's capital improvement plan.

Also on the council's agenda is the appointment of three replacements to fill vacancies:
  • Michael Birdman will be appointed to the Heritage Preservation Board
Patrice Arseneault will be appointed to the Human Rights and Relations Commission
  • Kristen Conner will be appointed to the Edina Community Health Committee.
The council will also receive the 2012 comprehensive financial report.

The Edina City Council will convene at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, in Edina City Hall. The full agenda for the meeting can be found online.
