County Board Briefs –– 11-9-21

November is National Adoption Awareness Month

The board recognized November as National Adoption Awareness Month and asked Jess Van Kuyk, manager of Anoka County Children and Family Services, and Jill Davis, supervisor of the permanency unit in Children and Family Services, to talk  about Anoka County’s efforts at the local level to help kids under state guardianship find "forever homes.” To watch the video on this item, click HERE. 

Forensic Position Added to Medical Examiner’s Office

The board approved adding one full time office investigator forensic position to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, due to the office’s caseload growing exponentially. For more information on this item, click HERE.

Right-of-Way Acquired for Roundabout

The board approved acquisition of right-of-way for improvements at the intersection of Old Central Avenue and Gardena Avenue in Fridley. This action is to prepare for a roundabout that will be constructed by Moore Lake, just west of Totino Grace High School. For more information on this item, click HERE.

Speed Zone Study Requested

The board approved a speed zone study on Kettle River Boulevard NE, from Broadway Ave. NE, to the east county line, as requested by the City of Columbus. Residents in the area and officials at the city are concerned with vehicle speeds along this route. The current posted speed limit is 55 mph. For more information on this item, click HERE.

Gifts Accepted for Veteran Services

The board accepted the following donations to the Anoka County Veteran Services Office:

Ham Lake Lanes: $400

Full Moon Bar and Restaurant: $100

Jumpin Jacks: $100

Coon Rapids American Legion: $25

 Gift Accepted for Anoka County Parks

The board accepted a $200 from James E. Anderson Jr. to the Wargo Nature Center. This money will be used for bird feed at the bird feeding station. To watch the video on this item, click HERE.
