Ruth Bittner to Run in Special Election

Date: July 18, 2025

Ruth Bittner, business owner, has filed paperwork to launch her election to the Minnesota House of Representatives in House District 34B, as a Republican. Ruth will be running in the Special Election
called by Governor Tim Walz to fill the seat formerly held by Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman. β€œAll Minnesotans are still shocked at the tragedy of her death. We appreciate her service and the dedication she brought to her role in serving this state,” said Ruth.

Like Melissa Hortman when she first ran, Ruth is a new voice in MN politics, having never held public office in the State. β€œBut I am far from unprepared for the immense challenges the role will require. I believe the purpose of serving is to make a better future for all Minnesotans. As a lifelong, loyal Minnesotan, I am looking forward to representing my community as a citizen,” she explained.

When announcing her decision to friends and family, Ruth said, β€œIn these times of extreme partisanship, I can think of no more important mission than to restore the people’s trust in government. I want to be a voice in the legislature that represents ALL people, and who is willing to reach across the aisle to negotiate for the good of all, even when issues are difficult.”

Ruth went on to describe her top three priorities: 1) Common sense budgets that bring back fiscal stability to Minnesota, 2) Safety and security in our streets and in our homes, and 3) Restoration of
educational excellence by supporting teachers and parents in our schools.

β€œI bring a wealth of personal experience to this role and look forward to sharing my story with the voters of HD34B,” she explained.

Ruth graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Food Science. Ruth began her career as a food scientist at Land O’Lakes until she became a small business owner. Through these endeavors, she worked as an analytical developer and then an entrepreneur. Her career path eventually led her to become a real estate agent, which is her current occupation.

β€œAs a real estate agent, I have learned to become a listener and have made problem solving a way of life,” Ruth said. Ruth and her family attend Family of Christ Church where she has volunteered as the
small group coordinator. She and her husband are the parents of two sons. β€œWe have valued family above all,” she added. Ruth has been a resident of this community for her entire life.

The special election will be held on September 16, 2025. HD34B covers the majority of Brooklyn Park as well as parts of Champlin and Coon Rapids. Information is available at www.MnVotes.org . Ruth can
