HOPKINS, MN — Rep. Dean Phillips, a two-term Democrat representing the Minneapolis suburbs, has suspended his campaign for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination.

Phillips failed to win a single delegate, even in his home state, which held its primary Wednesday. "Uncommitted" won 11 delegates in Minnesota alone.

"I ran for President in 2024 to resist Donald Trump again - because Americans were demanding an alternative, and democracy demands options," Phillips said in a statement.

"But it is clear that alternative is not me. And it is clear that Joe Biden is OUR candidate and OUR opportunity to demonstrate what type of country America is and intends to be."

In July 2022, Phillips — a centrist — became the first Democrat in Congress to publicly come out against Biden running for a second term. He began his campaign in the fall virtually unknown outside of Minnesota and his five-month campaign didn't do much to change that.
