Body Of 4-Year-Old Missing From Hopkins Found In Minnehaha Creek

HOPKINS, MN — The body of 4-year-old Hopkins boy Waeys Mohamed — who hadn't been seen since Sunday morning — was found in the Minnehaha Creek by a volunteer out looking for him, police said.

"His death is believed to be a tragic accident," the Hopkins Police Department said in a statement Monday afternoon.

"Our condolences go out to Waeys’ family and loved ones as they navigate this unimaginable loss. We thank the entire Hopkins community for assisting us in our efforts."

Mohamed was last seen at 7:30 a.m. Sunday walking east on Lake Street Northeast.

Police had been searching for him in the area of Blake Road North and Second Street Northeast, authorities said. People with surveillance cameras were asked to check for possible sightings.

The child had autism, was nonverbal, and is drawn to water, according to KMSP.
