• Renewed Hopkins mayor, council members share thanks and future plans (hometownsource.com) — Hopkins residents just saw Mayor Patrick Hanlon and council members Heidi Garrido and Aaron Kuznia sworn in for new four-year terms, following a change that lengthened the mayor’s term. At a brief Jan. 6 meeting, they expressed gratitude to voters and reaffirmed their commitment to making tough decisions and pursuing an inclusive, positive vision for the city’s future. 
• Hopkins shooting: Man charged with murder after girlfriend shot in the eye (fox9.com) — A 20-year-old Hopkins resident has been charged in Hennepin County after his girlfriend was fatally shot in their Cambridge Street apartment, with prosecutors alleging he mishandled a handgun he believed was unloaded. Police say he twice pulled the trigger while checking the firearm, with the second shot striking her in the eye. The case raises serious questions about gun safety in Hopkins homes.
