Wrong-Way Crash Kills Woman On Highway 52 In Inver Grove Heights

An unbelted 80-year-old woman from Cottage Grove died after driving south in the northbound lanes of Highway 52, according to authorities.

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MN — An 80-year-old Cottage Grove woman was killed Tuesday night after driving the wrong way on Highway 52 and crashing head-on into another vehicle, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities said Phillis Lucille Deboth was driving a 2007 Saturn Vue southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 52 when she collided with a northbound 2020 Chevrolet Silverado at 80th Street around 9:54 p.m.

Deboth was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene, according to the crash report.

The Silverado’s driver, a 60-year-old from Birchwood, Wisconsin, was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Road conditions were wet at the time.
