Krause of Lakeville Won't Rule Out Reelection Bid for Dakota County Board

The county commissioner and NFL Hall of Famer is currently involved in a lawsuit against the football league on behalf of former players with brain injuries.

Lakeville resident Paul Krause has served on the Dakota County Commission for nearly 20 years, winning a two-year term opened through redistricting in 2012.

And while he's not yet declaring that he'll be running for reelection in 2013, he's not ruling it out either.

“I have no idea what the future holds,” Krause told Sun Thisweek. “I have to live day-to-day from now on. I won’t announce until the day comes.”

But the National Football League Hall of Famer said if he doesn't run for reelection he won't be running for anything.

“I am not looking for another office,” he told the paper. “I can guarantee you that right now.”

The NFL star is currently a lead litigant in a lawsuit looking for compensation from the football league for brain injuries suffered by retired players.

“We never got a lot of pension or health care money,” he said. “The league seems to forget about those 200. They have not really done anything for the guys that are in the Hall of Fame.”

Krause said he lives in pain, beset by migraines and shoulder aches.

“It affects my daily life,” he said. “I’m aware of something that is not right. I can’t sleep, there’s irritability and I get frustrated because I can’t think as quickly as I used to.”
