Lakeville Man Charged with Abandoning Son Arrested in California

Authorities nationwide were looking for Steven Alexander Cross, whom authorities say left his 11-year-old son a note and disappeared shortly before facing foreclosure.

A Lakeville man accused of last month has been arrested in California, according to multiple reports.

Steven Alexander Cross, 60, was found in Cambria, Calif., about 127 miles north of Santa Barbara. San Luis Obispo County Sheriff deputies arrested Cross without incident yesterday, officials said.

According to a report by KSTP, detectives in Minnesota found information on Cross' computer suggesting he had booked a three-day stay in Morro Bay, Calif.

An ex-girlfriend of Cross' later told investigators she received an email from him sent from a library in Carmel, Calif., saying he was depressed and sleeping in the streets, the report said.

Cross is charged in Dakota County with neglect of a child. Authorities say his 11-year-old son arrived home on the afternoon of July 18 to find his father gone. The boy found a note from his father, saying Cross had left for good; it instructed the boy to get his PlayStation and go to a neighbor’s home.
