Here are a few events happening in and around Maple Grove the weekend of Sept. 7-8, 2013. Schedules/events subject to change.

Join biologists who are studying songbirds to learn about age, migration and population during a bird banding event. Free, drop in anytime from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 7 at Eastman Nature Center in Elm Creek Park Reserve.

My Preschooler & Me: Nature Discoveries: Are You a Spider event 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at Eastman Nature Center in Elm Creek Park Reserve. Explore nature with your preschooler as you both participate in hands-on discoveries. Reservations required by phone only at 763-559-6700. Cost is $5 per person.

The Law Enforcement Training Facility in Maple Grove is open for public shooting 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. Find information and rates on the city of Maple Grove website.

In nearby Osseo, the 37th annual Osseo Lion Roar Days is scheduled to start Friday, Sept. 6 and continue to Saturday, Sept. 7. More than 100 units and bands are scheduled to participate in the parade starting noon Saturday, Sept. 7. Check out the flyer on Maple Grove Patch for additional details and schedule of events.

Maple Grove Lutheran Church will have Rally Sunday starting at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 with a worship service, followed by a service project and brunch. Maple Grove Lutheran Church is located at 9251 Elm Creek Boulevard.

Teens can watch the Vikings take on Detroit on the big screen at the teen center at the Maple Grove Community Center starting at noon, Sunday, Sept. 8. Adults – check out the Maple Grove Patch directory and contact your favorite restaurant and bar to see if they are carrying the game.

A reminder that the Grove Cove Aquatic Center is closed until Sept. 20 for maintenance repairs, according to the Fall 2013 Maple Grove Park and Recreation brochure. The Maple Maze is scheduled to reopen Sept. 7.
