Couple Arrested in Connection with Maple Grove Burglaries

A Minneapolis woman and a Coon Rapids man have been charged with a scheme in which the man burglarized Maple Grove homes and the woman pawned the stolen property.

Brian Thomas Hudy, 34, is charged with first-degree burglary, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $35,000 fine. Holly Ann Eyerman, 39, is charged with receiving stolen property, which has a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Both are felony charges.

According to the criminal complaints, signed by Maple Grove Police Detective Tanya Petz, Maple Grove police were called to the parking lot of the Select Inn just before 5 a.m. July 22 on a report of suspicious activity.

When they arrived, officers found an apparently unoccupied car with illuminated taillights in the parking lot. As they watched, Hudy’s head appeared above the driver’s seat.

Police determined that Hudy was being sought on an outstanding Anoka County warrant and arrested him. During the process, Hudy asked an officer to grab his cell phone so he could ask his girlfriend – Eyerman – to lock the car, and the officer spotted a Golf Galaxy gift card and a debit card in a woman’s name.

Police contacted the Maple Grove woman who owned the debit card and learned that someone had broken into her home at about 3:30 a.m. She said she, her husband and their four children were asleep when the home’s burglar alarm went off; she said she went downstairs and reset it, thinking that it was a false alarm.

Officers also spoke to a Maple Grove resident in the 17000 block of 72nd Place North and watched surveillance video in which Hudy is seen walking across the lawn toward the burglary victim’s home just before 3:30 a.m., according to the complaint. The video also shows Hudy running from the home a few minutes later after the burglar alarm is activated.

Police obtained a search warrant for the hotel room shared by Hudy and Eyerman, who admitted that she and Hudy had been staying at the hotel for several weeks. Inside the room, officers found 17 purses and handbags, numerous clutch-type purses, makeup bags and checkbook holders, according to the complaint.

Police also found a matching Louis Vuitton purse and wallet set inside Eyerman’s suitcase that had been reported stolen on the night of July 21 in Maple Grove, the complaint charges. The victim told police that the purse and wallet were worth about $2,000.

Eyerman told police that Hudy had gone out one night by himself and returned with the Louis Vuitton set, but she told him to throw them out because they were fakes, according to the complaint. She said Hudy went out “most nights” and returned to the hotel with purses and earrings for her, and that she pawned various items for Hudy, the complaint says.

Hudy remains in the Hennepin County Jail on a $60,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled Aug. 13 in Hennepin County District Court. Eyerman is free on a $5,000 bond, with an omnibus hearing scheduled Aug. 30.
