Heal Hearts, A Million Kicks for Cancer and Help an Injured Maple Grove Man
The weekend of Aug. 9-11, 2013 has several events happening in Maple Grove to help out those in need as well as other activities.

Planning your weekend? Get out and give back around Maple Grove with several fundraisers happening.
- Maple Grove resident Mark Mann was severely injured in an accident on Balsam Lake in Wisconsin on June 16. A boat driven by his friend ran over his legs when was in the water while jet skiing (authorities said alcohol was not a factor). His family is helping him raise money for prosthetic legs, and fundraiser is planned for Aug. 9 at New Life Academy in Woodbury, where he graduated in 2006.
- Hearts Healing Hearts 5k begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at Elm Creek Park Reserve in the Acorn Pavillion. The 5k benefits the Young Adult Heart Foundation to assist young adults with the physical and financial burden of heart conditions.
- A Million Kicks for Cancer starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at the World Taekwondo Academy in Maple Grove. Grandmaster E. Lee, president of World Taekwondo Academy, and a US Olympic Taekwondo coach, states that WTA hopes to raise at least $30,000 for the Randy Shaver Cancer and Research Foundation.

- Just Between Friends Maple Grove Back to School Kids Consignment Sale 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at the former Gander Mountain store (near Old Navy in Maple Grove) with $2 admission. Open Sunday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with no admission.
- The Amazing World of Insects at Eastman Nature Center 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Eastman Nature Center at Elm Creek Park Reserve. Free. Stop by to admire the diversity of insect colors and shapes. Grab a net to catch some live bugs
- OFA Kickoff Spaghetti Feed 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11 at the Lookout Bar & Grill in Maple Grove.
- Feeding Frenzy at Eastman Nature Center 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11 at the Eastman Nature Center at Elm Creek Park Reserve. Free. Look on as the salamander snacks, turtles taste, and frogs feed. Different animals will be fed throughout the afternoon.
