Maple Grove Celebrates National Night Out Tuesday, Aug. 6

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, Maple Grove along with thousands of communities nationwide will be celebrating National Night Out. 

Maple Grove police will sponsor a free barbecue lunch and emergency equipment show to kick off National Night Out from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 at the Maple Grove Community Center. Dozens of vendors will be present with safety information and activities for children and adults. Dunk an officer in a dunk tank – with all proceeds going to the Special Olympics of Minnesota. 

Neighbors throughout Maple Grove are anticipated to have block parties to gather and meet one another as National Night Out continues Tuesday evening. 

Other events the week of Aug. 5-9, 2013 include: 

A special Maple Grove City Council meeting 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5 at the Maple Grove Government Center. Weaver Lake Road traffic improvements and other matters “as deemed necessary” are scheduled on the agenda. The regular Maple Grove City Council meeting will follow at 7:30 p.m. 

Several Town Green performances are scheduled on Main Street in Maple Grove. All performances are free and open to the public.

• 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5 - Comedian Scott Hanson
• 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 – Minneapolis Commodores (a cappella male chorus)
• 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 – Paul Spring (upbeat folk and funk)
• At sunset Friday, Aug. 9 – the showing of the movie "Viva Las Vegas"

At the Maple Grove Library, teens can check out the Teen Anime Club 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 to watch anime, discuss manga and share artwork. Free and no registration is required.

In its 10th year, the Maple Grove Farmers Market is open 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 at the Maple Grove Community Center parking lot.
