Maple Grove Days 2013 Events Schedule

Check out a variety of events happening throughout Maple Grove July 10-14, 2013.

Medallion Hunt

The countdown to Maple Grove Days begins with the annual Medallion Hunt. Search all around town for the hidden 5”x5” bronze colored maple-leaf shaped Medallion.  The winner will be presented with a $500 cash prize from the Lookout Bar & Grill at Maple Grove Days on Saturday, July 13.  A new clue will be published each week in the Osseo-Maple Grove Press and Maple Grove Patch beginning June 2 through July 11 and on the www.maplegrovedays.org website.  The winner must have purchased a $3 Maple Grove Days button to claim prize.  A list of guidelines and rules is also available on the website.

Visit your favorite stores and check out the specials they are highlighting in celebration of Maple Grove Days. Participating business throughout Maple Grove Thursday, July 11 and/or Friday, July 12.

Duplicate Bridge Tournament

Non-sanctioned, one-session duplicate bridge tournament.  All entry fees go to prize awards. Must register in teams.

Pickleball Un-Officiated Tournament

This game is a combination of ping-pong, tennis and badminton and is played with a smaller racquet/paddle and a whiffleball. In this un-officiated round robin tournament top teams will advance to single elimination. Farmers Market 

Explore the food and fun at the Maple Grove Farmers Market. More than 40 vendors offering their products – fresh produce, flowers, meats, eggs, honey, breads, salsa, pickles, hummus, canned goods, baked goods and more.

Pierre Bottineau Parade 

Watch marching bands, Maple Grove Ambassador candidates, clowns, local business entries, candy, visiting royalty, scout troops and mmore. Meet area politicians as they begin the parade march at 6:10 p.m. Look overhead for the vintage plane flyover at 6:15 p.m as the rest of the parade units follow at 6:30 p.m.

FRIDAY EVENTS

Junior Golf Tournament

Site: French Lake Golf Course, 17500 County Road 81, Dayton, MN           

Date/Time: Friday, July 12, 9:30 a.m. to noon

here will be a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. All golfers must check by 9 a.m.  

Who: Open to boys and girls ages 12-17 who reside in Maple Grove, Osseo and Dayton. Space is limited

Fee: $10 entry fee will be collected from each participant to cover the costs of green fees.  If the event is cancelled due to weather, the entry fee will be refunded.

Awards: Medals will be awarded for the champion of the longest putt, the longest drive and closest to the pin in each category.  The  boys and girls categories are ages 12-13, ages 14-15 and ages 16-17. 

Pizza, refreshments and over $500 in prizes will be given away after the golf event. Every participant will receive a prize.  Medals will be given after golf event for those present or mailed.

3-on-3 Basketball Tournament

Enter your team in the Maple Grove Days 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. The top two teams will win a prize in each age group.

Capture The Flag at Weaver Lake Park

Join us for the third annual Maple Grove Days Teen Capture the Flag. Two teams, three miles of trails, two city blocks and one winner. Teams will be formed on site, bring a friend and be prepared to have some fun.

The Maple Grove Ambassador Scholarship Program, offering valuable leadership opportunities to young women in Maple Grove and Osseo, invites you to the annual community celebration - the Maple Grove Ambassador Coronation “Maple Grove: A Perfect Fit!”

Gala in the Grove

Meet the newly crowned 2013 Maple Grove Ambassadors, their families and sponsors during Gala in the Grove.  Welcome neighboring Ambassadors at this celebration with music, dancing,  snacks and community camaraderie.  This event is free for the community with donations kindly accepted for the Maple Grove Ambassador Scholarship Program.

Zumba Workout

17th Annual Rice Lake Classic

A morning to run with your family, neighbors, friends, high school alumni or co-workers.

Who: Men and women all ages; boys and girls 14 and under who have the endurance to go the distance Race is limited to 350 participants

Awards: This is a fun run, but it is timed and medals are given for age/gender categories. T-shirts and refreshments for all participants. Geocaching

Participants will learn the basics of Geocaching and then go searching for several caches. GPS units will be provided by REI. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather.

Kids’ Fun Run
Run/walk your way around North Arbor Lake (located on the east side of Main Street across from the Government Center) for approximately .8 mile route.  Race will start/finish on the west side of the Lake, just north of the shopping area. MG Police Dept. will escort runners to ensure safety of everyone.

Childrens’ Fishing Clinic

Weaver Lake Conservation Association will be on hand to help children (and adults) learn casting skills, some fun fish related activities and of course fishing. Fishing poles and bait are provided.

Gather your team for our three annual Maple Grove Days Cornhole Tournament.  Teams of two will compete for over $1,000 in cash and prizes.

Maple Grove Days Art Fair

For sale are paintings, sculptures, ceramics and much more.  Visit with the artists and get acquainted with their trade.  Stop by the Kids Art Activity in the plaza by 3 Squares Restaurant where members of The Maple Grove Arts Center will be on hand to assist in an art experience: art on a stick.  And also visit the Maple Grove Arts Center. Enjoy "fair food" by Main Street restaurants for a Taste of Main Street sampling and specials.

Over 130 booths from various businesses, health care representatives, non-profit Groups and hme businesses will be displaying information and offering free demonstrations.  Many free samples.  Performances by wandering musical group “The Medicine Show” from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Community Center.

6th Annual Showcase Silent Auction

Corn Feed

Maple Grove Lions invite you to enjoy some of the “best ever” fresh steamed sweet corn, hot juicy burgers or brats and cold soft drinks.  The MG Lions are part of Lions International; the world’s largest service organization. The Lions have enhanced our community with the building of the MGCC Marquee, Picnic Pavilion and Playground. Our city’s Police Department has received emergency defibrillators in each police car, police bicycles, and workout room exercise equipment, along with the Fire Department receiving infrared heat scopes. Yearly, the Lions supply and assemble holiday food baskets for local families, scholarships to local students and much, much more.

Duct Tape Fashion Show and Contest

Are you a believer you can make anything with duct tape? Then here is your challenge. Design anything from duct tape and enter the Duct Tape Contest and/or Fashion Show!  Categories are:  Best Individual Sculpture, Accessories, Runway Outfit and Best Costume. Participants will meet at the Town Green at 1:30 p.m.  Participants will be on stage at 1:50 p.m.  Also, check out our “Wearable Duct Tape” workshop for patterns and innovative ideas on Monday, July 1, from 11:30-2:30 p.m.

Summer Battle of the Bands Winner 2013 Performance

Organize a creative team of 2-6 people and design a boat that will be able to float a case of soda pop (24 cans) down the Lazy River without the case getting wet.  Parking permit available during

Bed Races

It’s our 6th annual Rotary “40 WinksBed Race. 100% of registration fees and pledges benefit the “40 Winks Foundation” which purchases beds and bedding for local CROSS clients.  “40 Winks Foundation” also donates beds to CROSS Bridging, Inc., St. Anne’s Place, World Relief of Minnesota, Union Gospel Missions and Tubman Family Alliance.  Racers are judged on time, costume impression and bed design.

Fireworks

Free fireworks display will be launched from the south shore of West Arbor Lake behind the Maple Grove Community Center.  The 500’ fall zone will be roped off for your safety.  Please stay behind this area.  Tune your radio to BOB106 simulcast show.

One Day Volleyball Tournament

Self-officiated Sand Volleyball Tournament hosted by the Minnesota Recreation & Park Association (MRPA).  Four or five team pools begin with round robin play with top teams advancing to a single elimination tournament.  Managers will be notified of start time. Maple Grove Area Garden Tours 

15th Annual Garden Tour, don't miss this fabulous chance to see some of the most thoughtfully designed gardens in our area. For the first time, workshops will be offered at each of the garden locations. Local experts will offer information on straw bale gardens, landscape design and instruction, veggie, herb and butterfly gardening, landscape and waterscape, and edible landscaping. Tour will also feature raffles garden give-aways and an educational scavenger hunt for children, cooking and recipe ideas, custom containers designed by the Maple Grove Art Center and Hennepin County Master Gardeners at each location.

Site:  Four garden locations.  Pick up a map for the self-guided tour at these locations: Lynde Nursery, Hedberg's, Lawn King, Malmborg's Garden Center, Fair's Nursery, Stonecrop, Lord of Life Church, and the Community Center. Map and information also available on website www.maplegrovedays.org

Maple Grove Historical Preservation Society Museum Open House

History buffs or those just interested in learning about the past will enjoy our new local museum. Stop by for an ice cream social and view historical displays from a 1930’s kitchen to a school display and presentation of war uniforms.  Photo boards are on display.  You may even find a picture of your family members among the treasures.

Maple Grove Days Art Fair

Art lovers of all ages are invited to shop a wide variety of art mediums. For sale are paintings, sculptures, ceramics and much more.  Visit with the artists and get acquainted with their trade.  Stop by the Kids Art Activity in the plaza by 3 Squares Restaurant where members of The Maple Grove Arts Center will be on hand to assist in an art experience: art on a stick.  And also visit the Maple Grove Arts Center. Enjoy "fair food" by Main Street restaurants for a Taste of Main Street sampling and specials.
