Maple Grove Man Charged for Drug Possession

Police say they stopped Paul Daniel LeClerc for an outstanding arrest warrant, then reportedly found marijuana and ecstasy when they searched him.

A Maple Grove man has been charged with possession of marijuana and ecstasy after police stopped his car because of a broken light.

Paul Daniel LeClerc, 22, is charged with fifth-degree drug possession, a felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, signed by Maple Grove Officer Shawn Watson, police were on patrol near East Fish Lake Road and Jonquil Way at about 1 a.m. Aug. 29, 2012 when they spotted a car with an inoperable front light.

Officers checked the car’s license plate and discovered that its registered owner, LeClerc, had an active arrest warrant.

stopped LeClerc’s car and arrested him. During a search, they found a small amount of marijuana and two ecstasy pills, according to the complaint.

LeClerc admitted to police that the marijuana and ecstasy were his, the complaint charges.

LeClerc remains in the Hennepin County Jail on a $3,000 bond. He is also being held on a warrant charging him with violating terms of his probation on an April conviction for obstructing the legal process and violating Maple Grove’s social host ordinance.

An omnibus hearing in LeClerc’s drug possession case is scheduled Oct. 4 in Hennepin County District Court.
