Maple Grove Man Sentenced To 30 Years In Prison For Killing Wife

MAPLE GROVE, MN — A Maple Grove man was sentenced to serve 30 years in prison after he was convicted in October of killing his wife last year, according to a report.
John Wiseman, 56, was found guilty Oct. 15 of intentional second-degree murder for fatally shooting his wife, Yang Liu, in their home in March 2020.
Maple Grove police found Liu dead from multiple gunshot wounds on March 10, 2020, after Wiseman called 911 to report she was not breathing, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said.

Police searched Wiseman’s home in the 8600 block of Quarles Road and found $5,000 in cash and a passport hidden inside a box, and there were no signs of forced entry, prosecutors said.

Police also discovered gunshot residue on Wiseman's shirt sleeves and a rag in his car, according to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
Witnesses told police that Wiseman and Liu had a "volatile" relationship due to finances and infidelity, with one reporting that Wiseman wanted a divorce but "did not want to split the assets" he said he earned, prosecutors said.
Threat Made Against Maple Grove High School Through Social Media
Hennepin County Judge Nicole Engisch sentenced Wiseman to 30 years in prison, KSTP reports. He is incarcerated at Minnesota's state prison in St. Cloud.
Hennepin County prosecutors said they were seeking a longer sentence because Wiseman brought his son home from school to find his mother’s body.
