More Than 1,500 Customers Lose Power on Father’s Day in Osseo, Maple Grove

As of Monday afternoon, about 15 customers remained without power from Xcel Energy.

Father’s Day turned out to be more than a sunny afternoon outdoors in parts of Maple Grove and Osseo.

A fast-moving storm through both communities not only brought rain, but strong winds on June 16.

“About 6 p.m. Sunday, a quick storm came through which had very strong winds,” Xcel Energy Media Relations Representative Tom Hoen said. “Several tree branches were taken down, which in turn took down some power lines.”

“As of 2:15 today, there are 15 customers in the Maple Grove area without service,” Hoen said Monday, June 17. “We did get some reports of property damage, so customers who still have no service need to check the electric equipment on the outside of their homes. If there is damage, they need to get it repaired by a licensed electrician and then we can reenergize their property.”

According to the Pioneer Press, only “about a 10th of an inch of rain” fell from the system that moved through the Twin Cities June 16. KSTP.com reported a storm "gust of 59 mph was measured at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport."
