Springing Up in Maple Grove: Untiedt's Garden Market

Each year near Barnes & Noble, Untiedt's Garden Market opens up as the spring and summer seasons make their way into Maple Grove.

Here’s a glimpse at the seasonal business and what you might find if you stop by Untiedt's Garden Marketas shared by Manager Colleen Quiram.

Patch: What does your business offer?

Colleen Quiram: Untiedt's Garden Market operates seven days a week in the parking lot next to the Barnes & Noble in Maple Grove. Selling produce and flowers from a local farm, the Garden Market operates all summer, offering fresh and local fruits and vegetables to members of the Maple Grove community. Gardening supplies may also be purchased here in the early spring, and CSA memberships are also available.

Patch: What's a fact about your business that most customers probably don't know?

Quiram: We are a dropsite for Untiedt's CSA program. A CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Customers become shareholders, partnering with our local farm to receive a box packed full of fresh produce every week during the growing season.

Patch: What's your most popular product?

Quiram: In the spring our patio pots are our most popular item. They are grown on our farm in Waverly, planted in February, trimmed by hand and nurtured to make them full and beautiful for our customers. Our homegrown tomatoes are one of our most popular produce items in the summer, and we have them in June. Much earlier than many other growers. We also grow many varieties of Heirloom tomatoes, cherry and grape tomatoes, watermelons, sweet corn, green beans and many other items.

Patch: When and how did your business launch?

Quiram:  We are a seasonal garden center, so we 'launch' every May. We will be setting up and opening by May 3rd this year, and we will be open every day until Halloween. [Untiedt's Garden Market has been operating since May 1993].

Updated May 2: Due to weather conditions, the opening date has been delayed. Untiedt's hopes to open May 8.
