St. Thomas Academy Chess Team Places 17th in Nation

announced that its Chess Team ended the 2011-2012 season by earning 14.5 points out of a possible 28 at the national competition, placing 17^th out of 50 teams comprised of the best chess players in the nation. 

Individually in the K-12 Open Class of 330 entries, Matthew Dahl ’12 of Edina received an individual trophy for placing 13^th, and  ’12 of Eagan came in 32^nd. Reed Schelitzche ’13 of Burnsville received a trophy for third-best showing at the tournament for a player with a rating under 1,200 (Schelitzche’s rating is 648).
