Schunk Family Notified after Body Found in Rural Lonsdale

Authorities have not identified the deceased, as yet, but the family of a missing college student from Burnsville has told FOX 9 that police contacted them about a crime scene in Rice County.

The family ofΒ Anarae SchunkΒ has been asked to provide dental records after a body was discovered in a roadside ditch near Lonsdale Monday night.

According to the Star Tribune,Β Tyson Schunk, Anarae’s brother, said police requested the dental records about 9 p.m. Monday so the medical examiner can β€œrule it out or quickly identify” whether the body is his sister.

The family isΒ still hoping for the best, however,Β police reportedly told the familyΒ late last week that they believed theΒ 20-year-old college student was dead.

The Rice County Sheriff's Office confirmed late Monday that aΒ body has been recovered fromΒ a ditch inΒ rural Lonsdale.

According to the Lonsdale Area News-Review, on Monday afternoonΒ sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a remoteΒ area inΒ the 7000 block of 60th Street West in Lonsdale-Wheatland Township. Neighbors told the local paper that aΒ Rice County employee discovered a body whileΒ cutting weeds inΒ the ditch.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been called in to examine the scene.

Authorities have released few details, and the identity of the deceased is not yet known. However, the family of aΒ missing Burnsville womanΒ told FOX 9 News Β thatΒ police have informed them of a crime scene in Rice County.Β 

Volunteers searched all day for the remains ofΒ Anarae Schunk, 20, who is believed to be dead after police discovered her bloodstained jacket on the roof of an apartment in St. Paul.Β Schunk was last seen on Sept. 22 at a bar with ex-boyfriend Anthony LeeΒ Nelson and Ashley Conrade, both of whom have been implicated in the shooting death of Palagor Obang Jobi. Jobi was shot eight times in the parking lot of Nina's Grill, a bar in northeast Burnsville.
