Mendota Heights: A Hub For History Buffs And Nature Enthusiasts

Mendota Heights is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Mendota Heights has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

This beautiful nature preserve spans over 400 acres and offers a wide range of activities, including hiking, birdwatching and even farm tours. You can also sign up for one of their many educational programs and learn more about the natural world.
• Mendota Heights is also home to the historic Oheyawahi/Pilot Knob, a site of great cultural and spiritual significance to the local Dakota people. The protected open space site offers stunning views of the surrounding area and is a great place to learn about the history and culture of the Dakota people.
• Mendota Heights is home to the historic Church of St. Peter, which was founded in 1840 and is the oldest surviving churches in the state of Minnesota. The church is a beautiful example of Gothic Revival architecture and features stunning stained glass windows.
• Mendota Heights boasts a population of more than 11,700 people according to the 2020 census. The town is the first ring southern suburb of the Twin Cities.
• Mendota Heights is also home to several great parks, including Friendly Marsh Park, which offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city. The park features walking trails, a boardwalk and a variety of wildlife, including beavers, muskrats and a wide range of birds.

This trail links to several other trails and historic landmarks, and its trailhead grants access to a flat paved trail built on an old railroad bed.
