Mendota Heights Synagogue To Host Purim Carnival On Sunday

The event takes place Sunday at Beth Jacob Congregation and will feature food, fun, games, prizes and inflatables.

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN —Beth Jacob Congregation in Mendota Heights will be hosting its annual Purim Carnival this weekend.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, the event geared toward youth will take place at the synagogue, located at 1179 Victoria Curve. The festival will feature food, fun, games, prizes and inflatables. There also will be wine and chocolate sales.

Purim takes place Thursday. According to Britannica.com, the holiday commemorates the survival of the Jews who, in the 5th century BCE, were marked for death by their Persian rulers.

Organizers of the carnival said stricter COVID protocols than currently are mandated will be in place during the event because the carnival is expected to attract younger visitors who are not eligible for vaccinations.

Masks will be required and no food will be served in the social hall, front foyer. Additionally, any carnival games that traditionally have involved food will be removed.

The food that is available will be served in multiple rooms, allowing families to spread out while they eat.
