Celebrate Mendota Heights' New Organics Drop-Off Site On Saturday

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN — Mendota Heights residents interested in learning more about the city's new organics drop-off site, set to open on Friday, can attend a kickoff event with staff and volunteers on Saturday morning.

The kickoff will take place at the new site, located at Mendakota Park, 2171 Dodd Road, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents can ask questions of the staff and sign up for its organics program.

Program members will be able to drop off food scraps, paper towels, dairy products and meat products at the sites for free, to help reduce waste. Similar organic drop-off locations already exist in Eagan, Rosemount and West St. Paul.

By signing up, new program members will receive a welcome kit with a free container label, compostable bags and details on how to drop off organics, according to Dakota County. They will also receive an access code to enter the enclosure.

Members can use any container to collect organics in their homes, according to the Dakota County website. The container must be lined with a paper bag or compostable bag with the BPI logo – available for free at drop-off sites – and can be dropped off at the site.

Residents who can't make the kickoff can attend a free informational session on Tuesday from 6-6:45 p.m. at Burnhaven Library in Burnsville or a virtual session on Wednesday, July 21 from 6-6:45 p.m. Registration for the program is also possible online or by calling (952) 891-7557 or emailing organics@co.dakota.mn.us.
