March marks the start of Music in Our Schools Month, and Park Center Senior High School is getting ready to rock out with an upcoming musical production of All Shook Up. The musical features music by Elvis Presley, and the story was adapted from a book by Joe Dipietro.

Senior Elin Youngquist is playing one of the main characters named Natalie. Natalie is a young mechanic who seeks adventure. She wants to experience something new, when Chad, an out-of-towner arrives. Natalie becomes romantically interested in Chad, but he does not feel the same about her. To gain his trust, she disguises herself as a man. This story is filled with love triangles, relatable heart-felt moments, and lots and lots of laughter.

Students in the production have dedicated the last two months to bring the show together. The cast of about 15 students have rehearsed for two hours daily, and during tech week, students will be practicing for more than eight hours a day. For many, this is time well spent since it is what they love to do.
Youngquist, who has never had the chance to perform in a musical before due to conflicts with other activities, was excited to audition. She took the leap, landed the lead, and has now confirmed her future aspirations.
“It really helped me to see acting. The type of acting that I’m interested in isn't musical theater acting, but it has been helpful seeing the script, how you would walk around a stage, and acting with other people because I haven’t done that before. It helped me to see how I might do that in the future.”
Youngquist is considering colleges and universities where she plans on pursuing a degree in creative writing or screenwriting. She hopes that people will take the time out of their day to enjoy the musical.
“It’s got lots of Elvis music and lots of dancing. There are a lot of new people in theater this year, and it is going to be really exciting. It is really amazing!”
