Osseo Area Schools ISD 279: Seniors At Osseo Senior High School Explore New Career Paths

Students at Osseo Senior met with Laura Pappano, reporter from Hechinger Report to discuss how the pandemic has opened new career paths.

During the interview, senior Dayo Onanuga shared how much she enjoys helping people. She dreamed about becoming a surgeon, but after a year of online school, her future vision changed.

“I was burnt out from the pandemic. I probably cannot manage surgery,” Onanuga said.
Instead of giving up on a field area she is passionate about, she looked for other opportunities. She discovered healthcare administration where she can still make a meaningful impact on people, but she can also use her leadership to make changes in the health system.

Senior Kenji Lee is drawn to puzzles and problem-solving. He initially planned to study engineering, but after he got his driver’s license and discovered cars he tapped into a new passion. Lee noted similarities between engineering and auto mechanics, and he realized that a four-year college may not be the best path for him. Now Lee plans to attend a technical college where he can learn more about motors.

“Cars make me happy. Cars are fun,” he said. “I love working on cars, I like driving cars, anything to do with cars.” Though some adults tell him he won’t earn a lot, he reassured himself, “Do I really want to do this? Yeah, I do.”
