St. Thomas Academy Names New Head Coach

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN — St. Thomas Academy, a Catholic and military middle and high school for boys in Mendota Heights, recently announced that it named Mike Randolph its new head hockey coach.

Randolph became St. Thomas Academy's assistant hockey coach in 2021, according to the school. He is now replacing Trent Eigner as head coach after the school didn't renew his contract.

"We are very excited to have Coach Randolph as our next head coach," Reed Hornung, activities and athletic director at Saint Thomas Academy, said. "With 34 years as a successful head coach, he will bring fantastic experience to our program. I look forward to working with him to build men of character both on and off the ice."

Before coming to St. Thomas Academy, Randolph was head coach at Duluth East for 32 years and has over 45 years of coaching experience, the academy said. He has also earned a place in the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame and has the third-most wins for a high school hockey coach in Minnesota history, according to St. Thomas Academy.

Randolph also has playing experience, including playing on the 1976 US Olympic Team, the academy said.

"I haven't been this excited in 32 years," Randolph said. "I am honored to be the next Saint Thomas Academy Hockey Coach!"
