STA Alumnus Named Baseball Head Coach

Thompson was named All-Conference, All-Section and captain of the team during his senior year.

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN β€” Saint Thomas Academy announced Monday that it had named a new head baseball coach.

Bobby Thompson was an accomplished player for the Cadets while he was a student at Saint Thomas Academy, being named All-Conference, All-Section and captain of the team during his senior year, the academy said. After graduation, Thompson played club baseball at Iowa State University, the academy said.

Previously, Thompson was Head B Squad Baseball Coach for the academy for three seasons, and the academy said he was also the Head 15AAA Baseball Coach from 2016-2019. He also led the West Saint Paul Challenger Baseball Program from 2020-2021 and has been a coach and instructor at Great Lakes Baseball Academy in Woodbury since 2018, Saint Thomas Academy said.

Thompson has a Bachelor's in marketing and accounting from Iowa State University and a Master's in sports management from Concordia University-Saint Paul, the academy said.

β€œWe are excited to keep continuity within the Cadet baseball program with Bobby as the next head coach,” Greg May, athletics and activities director at Saint Thomas Academy, said. β€œHe has worked with many of our rising players for the past several years and has built strong relationships with them and his coaching peers, thanks in part to his calm demeanor and level head.”
