Storm Drops 7 Inches, Cancels Class: Everything You Need to Know

Here is a primer of snow-related information to get you up to date Tuesday morning:

SCHOOLS
• Inver Grove Heights Schools, School District 197, St. Thomas Academy and Convent of the Visitation have all canceled classes this morning.

SNOW EMERGENCIES

SNOW TOTALS
• The winter storm deposited as much as 7 inches of snow during the overnight hours in some Dakota County communities, according to the National Weather Service. The snow is expected to continue this morning, with totals in excess of 10 inches likely in some areas.

TRAFFIC
• The Minnesota Department of Transportation is reporting most major routes—including highways 3, 52 and 55 and interstates 35E and 494—to be in "difficult driving condition," meaning the roads may be slippery and may have icy patches and packed snow.

TRANSIT
• According to the Metro Transit website, 528 buses were operating on schedule as of 8:45 a.m. “52% of buses are on time; average delay is 10 minutes,” says the website. “Light rail and Northstar are on schedule.Light rail is on schedule. Northstar trains have completed their morning schedule and will resume service this afternoon.”

• A message on the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority website from Monday morning says MVTA buses are operating, but some buses might be delayed due to weather conditions.

WEATHER
•Forecasters are calling for a high temperature of 29 degrees on Tuesday, with northeast winds at 10 mph. The winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. this evening. Click here for an updated forecast for Dakota County.
