After 50 and 119 Years, 2 Iconic Twin Cities Restaurants Are Closing

Two legendary spots in Minneapolis will serve their final customers this summer and fall.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Two beloved Minneapolis institutions, Annie’s Parlour in Dinkytown and Palmer’s Bar on the West Bank, are closing for good, marking the end of an era for generations of students, locals, and music lovers.

Annie’s Parlour’s Last Day: July 2

"It is with heavy hearts that we share the news: Annie’s Parlour will be closing its doors for good, July 2, after more than fifty unforgettable years in Dinkytown," the restaurant announced Thursday.

Annie’s was opened by John Rimarcik, a Minneapolis restaurateur "with a gift for creating places that felt like they’d always been there." The burger-and-malt spot became a classic for its "simple, affordable, and real" approach, serving generations of regulars over five decades.

"Even during our four-year closure, we held onto the hope that Annie’s would come back, and we’re deeply grateful that we got one more year to do what we love — serve good food, reconnect with old friends, and be part of the neighborhood again," the post read.

“Thank you — to our staff past and present, to the students who became regulars, to the families who made us part of their routine, and to everyone who ever climbed that staircase and made Annie’s a part of their lives.”

Gift cards from Annie’s can still be used at Convention Grill in Edina.

Palmer’s Bar To Close Sept. 14

Just a few months later, Palmer’s Bar will also close for good. Its last day will be Sept. 14.

"It is with heavy hearts that we must finally announce that Palmer’s Bar’s last day of business will be this September 14th, 2025," the bar said in a Facebook post. "This has been an incredibly difficult but necessary decision and we are devastated to do so."

The owners thanked "everyone that has been keeping this bar alive since 1906, especially our very faithful regulars, and the incredibly talented musicians that have played our stages over the years."

"Above all else, our staff — who make the place so special and who really are the best in the business. We wouldn’t have made it this far without you all."

Palmer’s will stay open through the summer, with a "jam-packed calendar and plenty of time to party and say farewell."

"Please join us in saying goodbye to a West Bank institution, raise a glass to all the good times and great people, and make it a last summer to remember here at Palmer’s Bar."
