'Heavy' Snow In Forecast For Twin Cities: MN Weather

There are still more questions than answers, but forecasting models show that central Minnesota might finally get plowable snow.

TWIN CITIES, MN — There are still way more questions than answers, but forecasting models show that central Minnesota might finally get plowable snow on Saturday.

"Forecast model runs are still on track for a bigger snow system Saturday," Minnesota Public Radio meteorologist Paul Huttner wrote Wednesday.

"This one looks like it could deliver major winter storm conditions to much of central and southern Minnesota including the greater Twin Cities area Saturday."

Before then, an inch or two of snow is expected Wednesday night into Thursday.

Here’s all the National Weather Service is willing to say about this weekend in the Twin Cities. It will give more specifics as the day approaches:

Friday Night: Snow likely, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 18. West northwest wind around 5 mph becoming east after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Saturday: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 21. East northeast wind around 10 mph becoming north northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 1. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
