Here's Why The Tornado Sirens Just Went Off In Minnesota

Tornado sirens just went off all across Minnesota.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Did you just hear tornado sirens in Minnesota and wonder why? If it’s not the usual test time, the first Wednesday of every month, it’s easy to be caught off guard.

Don’t worry, there’s no emergency. The sirens are part of a statewide drill for Severe Weather Awareness Week, which runs April 7 through 11 in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Statewide tornado watch and warning drills are scheduled for Thursday, April 10, at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.

Each year, the two states use this week to help residents prepare for tornadoes and other severe weather. Sirens are tested, schools and businesses hold drills, and emergency agencies share vital safety information, all to help communities get ready for summer storm season.
