Inmate Escapes Hennepin County Custody, Sheriff Asks For Public's Help
Deputies are actively searching for an inmate who escaped during transport to another facility, authorities said.

MINNEAPOLIS — Deputies are actively searching for an inmate who escaped from the Hennepin County Jail during transport to another facility.
On Feb. 2 at 1:53 p.m., 46-year-old Billy Mason was being prepared for transport with additional inmates when he fled on foot through an open security garage door of the public safety facility in downtown Minneapolis, deputies said.
Mason had been conditionally released on a Hennepin County warrant but was being transported for a warrant out of Ramsey County.

When Mason came into custody, he reported no permanent residence.

Mason is described as a white male, 5’10’’, 249 pounds, with brown hair, and brown eyes, who was wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. He was handcuffed with a waistbelt at the time.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said it is utilizing all available resources including law enforcement partners to locate Mason.
"Our detectives are investigating all leads, and we are also seeking the public’s help," the sheriff's office said.
"Our office is investigating this situation and looking at every step that led up to it to determine any corrective action. We want the community to know we are committed to your safety and we will provide further updates as more information becomes available."
