July 4, 2024: What's Open, Closed In The Minneapolis Area

Here's a look at what you can still find open in the Twin Cities metro area on Independence Day.

MINNEAPOLIS — All Minneapolis city government offices are closed Thursday, July 4, so employees can celebrate Independence Day. Minneapolis police and fire emergency services will be operational as normal, however.

There will be no garbage or recycling pickups on July 4, and each household’s garbage and recycling pickups will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

In addition, the Solid Waste & Recycling customer service office is closed on Independence Day.

City of Minneapolis parking meters will not be enforced on July 4. Privately owned parking meters may still be in effect. Minneapolis city offices will resume regular business hours on Friday.

Banks will also be closed, as well as many retailers and shopping malls.

Here is a look at what else will be closed on July 4 in the Minneapolis area:

  • Public library: closed
  • Minnesota state offices and courts: closed
  • Post Office: closed
  • Banks: closed
  • Hennepin County offices: closed

Though banks and government offices will be closed, many stores and restaurants will be open for regular business hours.
