Lower Fares For Metro Transit Just Went Into Effect

MINNEAPOLIS — Metro Transit is rolling out a major overhaul of its fare system to make public transit more affordable and convenient for riders.
Approved by the Metropolitan Council in November, these changes will take effect on Jan. 1, 2025.

- $2 flat fares: Full-priced fares for all non-express buses and light rail will be $2 all day, every day.
- $1 fares for youth, seniors, and Medicare recipients: These groups can ride non-express buses and light rail for just $1 all day, every day.
- Reduced All-Day and 7-Day Pass costs: For riders taking multiple trips, All-Day Passes will cost $2 to $4, while 7-Day Passes will be priced at $20.
- 1-cent pilot for Metro Mobility-certified riders: Through June 30, 2025, certified riders can use Metro Transit and other regional transit providers for just one cent. The pilot program will guide future fare policy decisions.
