MINNESOTA STATE FAIRGROUNDS — Prices on everything from groceries to gas to lumber are up due to rapid inflation, and the Minnesota State Fair is no exception.

Fortunately, there is no shortage of ways to save money while still enjoying the "Great Minnesota Get-Together."

General tips from veteran fairgoers

  • Don't go to the fair hungry.
  • Pack a lunch. You are allowed to bring your own food to the fair, and while it's fun to try the many tasty foods at the fair, you'll regret filling up entirely on cheese curds and beer. Your stomach and your wallet thank you.
  • Take the kids to the "All You Can Drink" milk stand
    • Includes both chocolate and white milk
  • Need a break from the crowds and the sun? Check out the underrated venue and events at the Lee & Rose Warner Coliseum.
  • Don't buy inflatables or toys.
  • If you're going to Midway, pick a couple of rides you really want to go on ahead of time. The price for tickets means your wallet will empty quickly.
    • Check out Kidway
