MnDOT Reveals Huge Redesign For Busy, Crash-Prone Stretch Of University Avenue In Minneapolis
Thousands weighed in on safety-focused plans, including new medians, bike lanes, narrowed traffic lanes, and intersection reconfigurations.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A major redesign is coming to University Avenue Northeast, one of northeast Minneapolis’ busiest and most crash-prone corridors.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation this week unveiled final design plans for University Avenue between Central Avenue S.E. and 27th Avenue N.E.
The project includes big changes at the intersections of Broadway Street N.E. and Lowry Avenue N.E., which have the highest crash rates on the corridor.

MnDOT says the final design was shaped by input from more than 2,500 community members over several years. The project aims to improve safety and walkability along the corridor while still accommodating vehicle traffic.
