Teen Killed On Same Minneapolis Block As 2021 Child Shooting (patch.com) — North Minneapolis residents are reeling after a 17-year-old was fatally shot inside a home on Ilion Avenue North, the same block where 9-year-old Trinity Ottoson-Smith was killed by stray gunfire in 2021. Minneapolis police say shots were fired into the residence Sunday evening, and Chief Brian O’Hara pledged extensive resources to find those responsible while urging the community to share any tips.
   

2. Minneapolis considers city-run grocery store (kstp.com) — Minneapolis officials are exploring a city-owned grocery store after North Market’s closure deepened the food desert in north Minneapolis. City Council members have set aside $200,000 to study partners and locations, aiming to help residents who now travel to suburbs like Brooklyn Park just to buy affordable groceries.
   

3. FDA: Hundreds of products sold across Minnesota recalled due to contamination concerns (kare11.com) — A north Minneapolis distributor, Gold Star Distribution, has recalled hundreds of products sold at more than 50 Minnesota stores after FDA inspectors found rodent urine, bird droppings, and other insanitary conditions at its facility. Officials say no illnesses are reported yet, but they’re urging Minneapolis and statewide consumers to destroy any recalled items and request refunds because of possible bacterial contamination risks.
   

4. 'Snow angels' help neighbors through Minneapolis pilot program (kare11.com) — Minneapolis’ Snow and Ice Pilot Program is helping clear sidewalks for seniors and residents with disabilities in seven neighborhoods, including Fulton, using a mix of volunteers and contractors. With a $595,000 seasonal budget, the city’s Public Works Department is testing neighborhood-based “Snow Angels” and city crews on key pedestrian routes to keep 2,000 miles of sidewalks safer and residents in compliance with the 24-hour shoveling rule.
   

5. St. Cloud Man Charged With Third-degree Assault At Minneapolis Anti-ICE Protest (krocnews.com) — A man from St. Cloud was arrested after an alleged assault on a protester during an anti-ICE demonstration in Minneapolis, and is being held on a third-degree assault charge in Hennepin County. Part of the confrontation was captured on video, and authorities note the felony count could bring up to five years in prison and a substantial fine if convicted.
