Thanksgiving Grocery, Black Friday Retail Hours: What’s Open, Closed In MN

Most retail stores in Minnesota are closed on Thanksgiving Day, subduing the midnight madness rush to stores that started early in the 21st century but was abandoned during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thanksgiving Day shopping never fully returned due to shifts in consumer behavior and demands from retail employees and the public to make Thanksgiving a day off for all.

One retailer, the outdoor outfitter REI, is closed both Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday. REI, which has stores in 44 states, including Minnesota, has treated Black Friday as a paid holiday since 2015 as part of its #OptOutside tradition.

Some grocery stores and pharmacies in Minnesota will be open on Thanksgiving, at least for limited hours. Here are some of them (check for local variations in hours):
