MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A complex but powerful spring storm system is on track to impact the Twin Cities this weekend and beyond, bringing widespread rain and a sharp drop in temperatures that will likely end with a shot of wet snow.

After a warm and stormy Friday, rain is expected to overspread the metro Saturday afternoon before transitioning to snow Saturday evening.

While snowfall totals in the Twin Cities should remain under an inch, areas just north and west could see up to 2–4 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow will be slushy and probably short-lived, but with temps dipping into the 20s overnight, slick roads and reduced visibility are possible late Saturday into early Sunday.

  • Twin Cities: Less than 1 inch expected
  • St. Cloud: Around 2 inches possible
  • Alexandria: Up to 4 inches
  • Brainerd area: 3 to 4 inches, with some pockets near 5 inches
  • Hinckley/Cambridge: 1 to 2 inches
  • New Richmond, WI: Around 1 inch
  • Mankato, Rochester, Fairmont, Albert Lea: Less than 1 inch—mostly rain
