A 13-year-old boy crashed an SUV into a home after being given the keys and the wheel, Robbinsdale police said.

ROBBINSDALE, MN — A 13-year-old boy crashed an SUV into a Robbinsdale home Thursday evening after an adult let him take the wheel, according to police.

Just before 6 p.m. on April 21, officers responded to the 3200 block of Grimes Avenue North after reports that a Chevrolet Tahoe had slammed into a house. Police said the front third of the SUV was "buried" inside the home when officers arrived.

Two people were inside the home at the time. A man was injured when the walls of the house collapsed from the impact. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. A woman in the home was not hurt.

The SUV’s passenger, a woman believed to be a family member, told officers the boy had been allowed to drive.

Police said the woman gave the 13-year-old the keys so he could drive around the neighborhood and to a store.

On the way home, he mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing the crash, according to police.
