Ethel Lucille (Warn) Holm, 95

Ethel Lucille (Warn) Holm was born February 13, 1917, in Gwinner, North Dakota, to Erick and Agda (Ostlund) Warn. She was raised in Gwinner, baptized and confirmed at Gustaf Adolf Lutheran Church, and graduated Gwinner High School in 1935. She attended Valley City Teachers College and the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis.

On June 14, 1938, Ethel married a newly ordained minister by the name of Erni Holm. After marriage they served churches in Scandia, Alberta, Canada ‘38-‘43, Evansville, Minnesota ‘43-‘48, Council Bluffs, Iowa ‘48-‘54, Walnut Grove, Minnesota ‘54-‘61, and Pine City, Minnesota ‘61-‘68. While living in Pine City Ethel began working at the Lino Lakes Treatment Center. In the Fall of 1968, following Erni’s untimely death on January 13th of that year, Ethel moved to Minneapolis. She began working as administrator for Twin City Linnea Home in St. Paul and moved to St. Paul in 1970. She retired in 1982, remaining in St. Paul until moving to Northfield in 2008.

Ethel was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and a former member of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Roseville and Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, writing and reading. She was quiet, organized, had a strong and unwavering Christian Faith, and loved her church home.

Survivors include 5 children: Dr. Paul and wife Alice of Cloquet, Eunice and husband Rev. Don Fultz of Shoreview, Philip and wife Barb of Northfield, Judith and husband Bobby Thomason of Farmersville, Texas, James and wife Selma of Prior Lake; 8 grandchildren: Katherine Setterlund, Karin Cortese (Todd), Todd Fultz (Erica), Tami Salo (Chuck), Andrew Holm (Melissa), Kersten Larson (Charlie), Austin Holm (and his significant other, Jamie Gerritsen), Jenna Berge (Gavin); 16 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Alice Morris of Waconia, Helen Vore of Fergus Falls; 2 sisters-in-law: Mavis Warn of Minneapolis, Lucille Warn of Maplewood; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her grandson Timothy Fultz and her brothers Clarence “Bud” Warn and Clayton Warn.

Ethel passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, September 28, 2012, at Cottage on Forest on the Campus of Three Links Care Center in Northfield, at the age of 95.

Funeral services will be 11:00AM, Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Northfield with Rev. Tim McDermott officiating. Music will be provided by Rhonda Reece. Interment will be in Swedish Lutheran Cemetery, Parkers Prairie, Minnesota. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Memorials are preferred to Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, Gustavus Adolphus College or Lutheran Social Services.
