Carleton Athletes Honored For Performances On Field, In Classroom
A baseball player and softball player are named among the region's top student-athletes, while a golfer is named one of the Midwest's best.

NORTHFIELD, MN —A trio of Carleton College athletes was honored on Friday, two of them for their performances on the field and in the classroom.
Baseball player Paul Hinton, a senior from Omaha, Nebraska, was voted to the College Sports Information Directors Association of America (COSIDA) Division III Academic All-District 6 Baseball Team. The team recognizes both athletic performance and academic success.
Hinton was the only player from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) to capture the honor this season.

An infielder, Hinton led the Knights (10-23) with a .400 average, 50 hits and 28 RBIs. He struck out just once in 125 at-bats, making him the toughest player to strike out in all three divisions of NCAA baseball.
In the classroom, Hinton has a 3.83 GPA as a double Economics and Mathematics major.

Hinton is the ninth Carleton baseball player to receive the academic all-district honor.
Carleton softball outfielder Brooke McKelvey, a senior, also was voted to the CoSIDA Division III Academic All-District 6 Softball Team for 2022, becoming the third player in program history to receive the honor.
McKelvey is one of two players from the MIAC named to the team.
A native of West Linn, Oregon, McKelvey hit .486, which was the best mark in program history. She was second in the conference in average, hits (54) ,total bases (75) and slugging percentage (.676).
McKelvey, who was one of two MIAC players named to the academic all-district team, hit safely in 30 of 36 games for the Knights ( 19-18), including a 17-game hitting streak from April 9 to May 1.
A cinema and media studies major, McKelvey has a 3.82 GPA.
Also on Friday, Carleton golfer Kristin Miyagi, a senior from Honolulu, Hawaii, was voted to the 12-player All-Midwest Region Golf Team by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).
Miyagi now has received this honor for three straight seasons. She also became just the 17th golfer in MIAC history to be named all-conference for four straight seasons.
During the 2021-22 season, Miyagi finished in the top five in seven of eight tournaments, including a third-place showing at the MIAC Championships. Miyagi finished the season with a 76.6 stroke average, the third-best average in the conference.
