Heat Advisory for Northfield Begins Sunday

Over the next three days, temperatures could soar during the day to over 100 degrees, with little relief expected at night.

Dog days of August, indeed: According to the National Weather Service, Northfield and other cities across southern Minnesota are in for a heat wave.

The NWS has issued a heat advisory for Sunday, Aug. 25 through the afternoon of Tuesday, Aug. 28. Temperatures are expected to be in the 90s during the day,Β with heat indices of 95 to 107 degrees. High temperatures will only be slightly moderated during the nighttime hours. The NWS predicts nighttime lows in the mid-70s and low 80s.

From the NWS:

Impacts:Β The hot and humid conditions will lead to a heightenedΒ risk of heat related stress and illness, especially for young children andΒ the elderly. Otherwise healthy adults could also be in danger if they are in an indoor spaceΒ without air conditioning or areΒ participating in strenuous outdoor activities.

Precautionary/preparedness actions:Β The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. To avoid heat stroke or heat exhaustion, drink plenty of fluids andΒ stay in an air-conditioned room. If outside, stay out of the sun as much as possible. Residents are also encouraged toΒ check up on relatives and neighbors.Β
