Northfield Garden Club Initiates Tree Planting, Looking for Volunteers

This is a cooperative effort with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the City of Northfield, Knecht's Nursery, Northfield Area Foundation and the Northfield Garden Club.

During the week of April 16, more than 55 trees will be planted in Northfield in the right-of-way on Highway 3 from the rodeo site to Jefferson Parkway.

This is a cooperative effort with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the , , Northfield Area Foundation and the Northfield Garden Club.

This project, initiated by the Northfield Garden Club, started nine months ago. MNDOT’s program called the Community Roadside Landscape Partnership reimburses the City for the trees and mulch. Another partner, Knecht’s Nursery, has given a substantial discount on the nursery stock. The Garden Club has committed to providing water for the trees for two years with the proceeds received from their annual plant sale and garden tour. The Northfield Area Foundation is supplementing this cost with a grant.

One requirement of the program is to have volunteers participating on mulching day, and infrequently throughout the year controlling weeds. Mulching day has been set for April 21 at 9 a.m. If you can help, please contact Garden Club President EdDee Imm at 645-2254, or visit our website at https://sites.google.com/site/northfieldgardenclub for more details.
