Woodbury Leadership Academy

Woodbury Leadership Academy (WLA) is a tuition-free, K-12 public charter school where high expectations and success matter to all! Our learning environment and school community promotes academic achievement for students in grades K-12, as well as personal integrity, equity and a dedication to value and serve others. Our school is committed to our students’ long term success. We use inquiry based learning by teaching the Core Knowledge Curriculum — building strong skills in math, reading, writing, history, science and technology. We also have a strong character education program to ensure students develop exceptional leadership skills. The character education program includes service learning projects and a focus of five core virtues - respect, responsibility, perseverance, gratitude and humanity. WLA uses the rigorous and classical Core Knowledge Curriculum to build strong foundational knowledge across subjects, promoting academic excellence and equity. By ensuring all students share common knowledge, we can narrow achievement gaps and build critical thinking and long-term success. The academic rigor at WLA prepares students for college and ready to lead. We out-perform the MCA Minnesota State average in all categories! Check out our report card. WLA is a public school with a private school feeling. WLA students wear school uniforms to promote equality, reduce peer pressure, and minimize distractions. Small class sizes at WLA allow for teachers and staff to provide personalized instruction, build strong relationships, and increase student engagement. We have known Pam Cunningham through church for over two decades. Our children have grown up together. It has been fun watching Pam guide her children to their now-adult pursuits of teacher, arboretum event planner, staff sergeant in the Air Force and college student. Through the years we have shared horseback riding, church picnics, weddings and the like. When our church was facing some challenges, it was decided to start a Parish Council. Pam was a natural selection as chairperson of this group. Despite her busy schedule, Pam stepped up. Instead of complaining about what was wrong, Pam set out to bring the diverse groups together and work toward solutions. The solutions that emerged were made stronger because Pam brought multiple sides together in debate and decision-making.
