Plymouth Readers React to Rolling Stone Cover of Accused Boston Bomber

Are you boycotting the latest issue of Rolling Stone?

By now, you’ve seen the cover. The July edition of Rolling Stone sports a self portrait of the accused Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

By now, you’ve seen the local reaction. Drug stores, like Plymouth's CVS and Walgreens, say they will not carry the magazine, in a protest of sorts.

But we want to know: Will you, personally, protest the racey editorial decision? A Nashua Patch blogger said that he intends to boycott the “advertisers of Rolling Stone magazine.”

On Wednesday, we asked Plymouth residents what they thought about the magazine cover. Plymouth Patch Facebook friends said the following:

  • Alisha 'Haider' Hillstrom: I don't think he should be on the cover of Rolling Stone. It glorifies what he did.
  • Alexis Ahrens: That guy is a poor choice of cover art. RS should stick with promoting artists, not scumbags.
  • Monica Healy: "The survivors of the bombing deserve your cover stories, although I feel Rolling Stone no longer deserves them." -The last sentence in a letter from the Boston mayor to the publisher of "Rolling Stone." Says it all.
  • Sue Murphy Smith: I would hope no stores carry this magazine with the bomber, what a slap in the face to the survivors by putting this person on the cover or anywhere in the magazine like he's some kind of hero.
  • Tracy Benoit: I will never read that mag again. How DARE they put that piece of #%*^ on the cover or give him any press at all?!
  • Aaron Herbst: I can't wait to read the article that is rumored to paint how an American teen turned monster terrorist. I don't see the outrage... The New York Times used the same picture on their cover. I've seen this picture many times on tv as well.
  • Tyran Patterson: Good question!! I like their stand but at what cost.. Didn't Manson make several covers??
  • Jeremy Hovde: i'm sure they're trying to make a point in the article, but seems like more murder glory with the cover. stores banning the issue will only increase sales. well played, r.s.

Do you have an opinion about the cover? Will you stop buying the magazine? Will you stop going to the stores that sell it?
