RICHFIELD, MN — Best Buy is recalling a line of pressure cookers after reports of second-degree and severe burns.

The six- and eight-quart capacity Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cookers have incorrect volume markings on the inner pot, according to the recall notice on the U.S. Consumer Protection Safety Commission website.

As a result, consumers can accidentally overfill the pot. This causes hot food and liquids to be ejected when the pressure cooker is vented using the quick-release method or opened while its contents are pressurized, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

There have been 31 reports of incidents in which the contents were expelled under pressure, including 17 reports of burn injuries, some of which involved reports of second-degree and severe burns, officials said.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled pressure cookers and contact Best Buy for a free replacement of the inner pot and floating locking valve for signaling pressure.

The recall was issued on Oct. 26 for approximately 930,000 units. The units were sold on the Best Buy website and its stores nationwide, as well as on the Amazon website. They were sold from October 2017 through June 2023 for between $50 and $120.

The recalled pressure cookers have the following model numbers:

  • NS-MC60SS8
  • NS-MC60SS9
  • NS-MC80SS9

The model numbers are printed on the permanent on-product label on the side of the cooker.

The inner cooker pots — which are sold separately as replacements — have model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS9.

The brand name INSIGNIA appears on the front of each unit and on its permanent on-product label.
